Every year a new artist bursts onto the scene with a new and extraordinary sound. Their music is like nothing you’ve ever heard before and uniquely different. They end up being the first of their kind and not the next somebody else. F.O.A. is exactly that! Fred Otis Amey (F.O.A.) was born and raised in Union City, CA, where he grew up learning how to manage with little to no money. From hand-me-downs to a drastically alcoholic father, young Otis had to deal with more than he could handle. Playing every sport imaginable kept him out the streets and out of trouble. As he matured, he began writing poems in his spare time that eventually turned into lyrical masterpieces, amazing all that took the time to listen!

Music took a back seat when Otis Amey signed in 2005 with the S.F. 49ers as an Undrafted Rookie Free Agent. There, he started as their punt returner, scoring the first time he ever touched the football on a 75-yard punt return! The play was broadcast all over ESPN’s Top 10 Countdown and a picture of Otis holding his hands up to the Lord was on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Even with success on the gridiron, F.O.A. always knew that his calling was music and that he could touch more lives through it. Genre? He calls his brand of music Kingdom Music. He aims to save the LOST by telling real and relevant stories that everyone can relate to. F.O.A. is definitely “Too ReaL!”

As one of the most prolific & talented producers in the country, Spec has worked with a proverbial who’s who list of artists both secular (prior to him dedicating his life to Christ) and Christian.

Soja Sto, raised in Solano County, had a love for music at a very young age. Growing up in the church he was taught (and understood) the importance of living for God and not living for the world. Now, at the age of 22 (by the grace of God), Soja Sto has never smoked nor done a drug, he’s never been drunk, and is also still a VIRGIN!

As a young minister of The Gospel, he uses his passion to preach and his passion for music to reach the younger generation with a message that “It’s ok to be DIFFERENT.” Different from your peers, different from this culture, different from this world! Christ has given us this different lifestyle, and Soja is not ashamed to tell about it! Soja Sto has just finished his debut project title “Praises the Mixtape”, and Breathe Life Radio had a chance to talk to him about it:

BLR – First we’ll ask, since some don’t know, where does your name come from?

Soja Sto – Soja Sto comes from combining being a soldier for Christ (Soja) and the first syllable in my last name (Sto).  Early in my life, as I would push to get over or get thru different things in my life, I can remember hearing God say, whenever I was successful in coming through something, “You’re a soldier for that!”  I guess you can say confirmation came one day when a friend called me soldier, but said it with that “slang” twist to it… Soja… and it stuck… Soja Sto.

BLR – What is the overall theme of this project, bro… Praises the Mixtape?

Soja Sto – The overall concept is it’s a collection of songs giving the reasons why Soja Sto praises God.  God has changed me from allot of things I was in to, and has given me a new heart & a new life.  Also, it’s a project that talks about WHY I praise God… having to go thru periods of giving up something because of the road to glory… my search for the path of righteousness…  God giving me His Agape love thru all of my imperfections and I had a chance to explain all of this thru this CD… It also gave me an opportunity to give back to God… it IS for the people, the listeners… but ultimately it is me giving back to God… an opportunity for me to glorify God.  I mean, I definitely feel this is my calling, ministering thru music, but greater than it just being my calling is it’s an opportunity for me to glorify God.

BLR – Who else can be heard on this project?

Soja Sto – C.O.G. is on a few of the tracks, singin’ the hook, Mr. Callorina (formerly known as Ruck City) steps up to th’ plate and lays it down for his Daddy in Heaven, and DJ Miko can be heard on this mixtape as well.

BLR – What is it that you’d like the believer to get from this project… and what are you praying that the non-believer will get from listening?

Soja Sto – For the believer, I would want them to be inspired by this mixtape… inspired to continue walkin’ this Jesus thang out, praise God.  I want them to realize that it’s ok to be who you are, it’s ok to be a Christian within who God made YOU to be… and find your purpose, find your calling, praise God… I pray that they’re edified thru what God has given me to put in this mixtape.

And for the nonbeliever, I want them to see that it IS possible to change.  Whatever it is you’re trying to get to, that there’s an avenue to get there and that there IS somebody here for them to help them find that avenue.  They have an opportunity in this mixtape to see God for who He is and to accept Him as their Savior… as well as knowing that they are not alone in life.  I’d also like for them to see that God is a loving God, and that He loves them unconditionally, unlike any other love they’ve experienced ever before!

Turf Ministries has just dropped their highly anticipated début release, “Give Him 100”. The album’s flavor is that classic Northern California Bay Area sound with a Turf Ministries uplifting message! The album’s first memorable single, “Giv’em 100”, contains hot lyrics laced by explosive delivery!  The Bay Area’s secret weapon has been dropped… Turf Ministries is the future… and the future is bright!

Individually, these sisters are each high on the list of premier vocalists in the Northern California Faith Based Entertainment Community!  Together, they are the amazing singing duo known as F.a.R.!

The group name, F.a.R., comes from the initials for their individual names, Felicia and Regina.  If you were to ask them to describe themselves, they would say they are simply “two girls singing to the Glory of GOD, and we’re SISTERS!”

They were born and raised in the Northern California Bay Area, and their parents are pastors.  When this project was completed, everyone in the bay area had been waiting anxiously for “Near” to release!  On this project, F.a.R. is talking about getting “Near” to the LORD. The word of God says that if you draw near to Him, then He will draw near to you, and there is NOTHING like being in the presence of God!

Because this is the Freshman project from J-White & Lee Majors, we decided to have little more info for this one!

Lee Majors has been rapping over 20 years. In 1994 he signed a 6 figure record deal with Jive records. Back then known ,as Extra Prolific, Lee produced records for his rap family at the time, the Hieroglyphics. He recorded songs for movie soundtracks “Die hard 3″, “A Low Down Dirty Shame”, and “Menace to Society”. “We were national, while most people in Oakland couldn’t see 2 blocks ahead of them, we were on planes to the next city and state.”

In the year 2000 Lee heard the call of GOD and took heed. “I knew that I had a great calling on my life,” Lee said, “but I was running. When a boy becomes a man he has to be accountable for his words and actions. GOD saved me and I began to speak life instead of foolishness. In 2003 I crossed paths with J-White again, I knew him already from the streets, and was glad to hear that he was a man of God now too, cause he had serious heat, even back then. GOD put us together and we came with ‘Iron Sharpens Iron’. We wanted to show the youth that you can be saucy for GOD and show the secular rappers that we got flames coming from this side!”

J-White heard the call of GOD on his life early, but began to get caught up in the streets of Oakland as a teen. “I got caught up in selling drugs and living the lifestyle that seems normal where I’m from.” He got offers from Death Row records and Sic-Wid It Records, but knew in his heart, even in sin, that he was a gospel rapper. In 2003 he released “Late Night Witnessing”, an underground classic!

Today, J-White ministers in jails, at youth events, high schools, and on the same streets from which he came. “Our kids are killing each other, and music is one of the main influences! These rappers out here telling yo kids to kill each other while they live in the hills off of the record sells!”

And so we present “Iron Sharpens Iron” a look at GOD through the eyes of some men who know how to live wrong, but choose to live right.

If we at BLR were to sum this project up in two words, those two words would be “lyrically ridiculous”!

This is the Freshman project from Not By Sight, a group that are special friends of the BLR family based on Kindred’s first ever interview back in 2007 was L.O.A. from this group!

Not By Sight is comprised of three members: Valiant, Nova and L.O.A. (Least Of All). These young men strive to live a life pleasing to God by acting on their faith and their hope is that it is evident in their music. They are adamant about giving God His due in every lyric so the typical self-image projection that is common in rap music is nowhere to be found in a song from Not By Sight.

Their sophomore album “The New Covenant” is also available here in the BLR Store and contains what you would expect from the trio: worship, evangelism, exhortation and honesty. What you might not expect is the focus on what the group calls “hard to preach messages”… topics like self denial, obedience, repentance, predestination, atheism and many more. Every member of Not By Sight understands the depravity of mankind due to their experiences without God so they are bent on using every word to call the listener’s attention to what the listener desperately need: a closer relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ.

As this youth generation is bombarded with images of sex, drugs, murder, etc… CONFLICT’s mission is to speak LIFE into the souls of our young people! The term, “Death Before Denial” simply means that it would be better to die than deny the name of JESUS! Rap ministry at it’s best!

“DEATH BEFORE DENIAL” also features many guest appearances!

This promotional project features nineteen different tracks from various artists, all hailing from California.  Some of the notable artists are Breathe Life Radio’s very own Qheem the Redeemed, 12th Tribe from Bakersfield,  Armor of God from Lancaster, Que from Los Angeles,  R.E.I.G.N from Oakland, Tha GIM from Fresno, Transparent from Richmond, and others.

This album will provide the listener with words of encouragement, high energy beats, and an undeniable West Coast sound. Word on the street for years has been that West Coast artists don’t get along and just can’t seem to work together.  Beef between Southern California and Northern California has always been a part of California Culture since the zoot-suit days. Never seeming to disappear, there has been a lack of unity within the Golden State and within the Urban Christian Music Community from the early days.

Word on the street as quoted from a well-respected Christian music distributor is, “Lack of record sales past the great state of Tennessee is the reason why Christian Rap artists in California are having a hard time moving units.” However, most artists seem to believe that the “every man for himself” attitude is the reason that only a few Urban Christian record labels still exist in California.
